Bio

Hi there! I’m Emily Pennington.
I’m a writer, adventurer, world traveler, and lover of things that get people out of their comfort zones. Los Angeles is my home base, but you can often find me sleeping in the dirt all over Sequoia, Yosemite, and the Eastern Sierra.

When I’m not out trekking, I work as a freelance journalist. I’m proud to have written for Outside Magazine, Backpacker Magazine, Adventure Journal, REI, and Mountain Life Magazine.

My online articles have been featured on Lonely Planet, Outdoor Project, Camping for Women, Women Who Explore, Hike It Off, and The Outbound, to name a few.

I loved my recent chat with The Outdoor Renaissance Podcast crew about my mission to visit every U.S. National Park.

Sarah over at the Tough Girl Podcast hit me up to talk about what it’s like to be a solo female backpacker and getting really, really feral on trail.

I was also interviewed for HumaNature on Wyoming Public Radio, chatting about the gut-shattering experience of breaking up with my boyfriend while climbing Mt. Whitney.

It was my giddiest pleasure to be featured on the Of Mountains and Men podcast a while back. Click here to check out the full episode!
